The dark accents are a nice way of highlighting certain areas and furniture pieces and there’s a really nice balance throughout. A slightly different option is to use red as an accent color for the walls without actually painting them entirely. For example, if you have a recessed nook in the room for reading you can have that portion painted red while the rest of the wall is a neutral and less striking color.

Also, since yellow is such a bright and happy but light color, you could create some strong color contrast by introducing dark tones of brown of black for the frames of the photos or for the artwork. For that, yellow is great but if you want to really make everything pop you should introduce some red pieces.

There’s actually a whole series entitled like that and it includes a TV unit, coffee table, side table and some wall shelves. Today we’ll only focus on the tables, trying to find ways to integrate them into ingenious projects. Let’s start with a simple transformation. For this project you can use either a Lack or a Hemnes table which are both Ikea coffee tables. Get some wooden boards and cut them to size so you can make a tabletop. Stain them and measure the center of the table so you know where to place the first board. Clamp each end down and then add the others the same way. Glue and screw all the boards, turn the table upside down and put something heavy on the middle. Let it sit overnight, add more screws in the center of each board but on the underside so you don’t see them.

Don’t forget the nail head trim! Here are two more do-it-yourself headboard projects, each one unique yet similar in the low, rectangular design. The first idea (below, left) shows DIY enthusiasts how to refresh an upholstered headboard with new fabric. The second project (below, right) uses decorative molding to create a picture frame for the outline, then fills in the center with fabric-covered plywood.
