Keeping things simple and using monochromatic colors is a modern feature of the interior design. Try to mix the modern white with bold primary colors. The result will be spectacular as long as you keep a few things in your mind. Pick a maximum of two shades to play with and most important try to break the room into zones by keeping the colors separate. This modern solution is great if you are dealing with an open-plan living room. I promise that your eyes will be ecstatic.
They all have in common one thing: the simplicity. This seems to be trademark of this style. The furniture has defined and clean lines and there are not a lot of decorations. The ones that are visible are tasteful and stylish. And one thing that is also very common is the contrast of colors. There always seems to be a beautiful balance of colors. A focal point is necessary. So most of the times, when the décor is quiet and neutral in terms of color, there also has to be an accent piece that spices up the atmosphere. Like that very beautiful rug, or the most common practice, the colorful pillows.
The first thing to do is to paint the walls of the living room in black and white. But do not paint them exactly like a chess board because this would be too tiring for the eyes. You can though paint one wall white and the opposite black. Then use some or all of the decorating items presented here, all of them chess-themed. Or you can try to combine a checkered coffee table in black and white and maybe some nice looking ceramic supports for the books. Hang a beautiful post-modernist painting on the wall and the effect will be amazing. Just make sure you do not fill up the room with chess-related items because too much is too much in everything you want to do. So keep it simple, but in good taste.
They say chess is the sport for mind and that it goes a long way back in history, being played by the Orient kings. I love chess and so do many other people, some of them even being so passionate about it that they want to reflect their passion in the way they arrange their homes, so they want to arrange a chess-themed living room. It’s not so hard to do that, as you can find enough chess-themed objects on the Internet, in the online stores, but you must be careful not to exaggerate and obtain an unwanted result.
